Swamp Agrimony
Agrimonia parviflora
One of several spp. of Agrimony; small yellow flowers appear on spikes atop the plant. The spikes may be two feet or more long, but usually only a few flowers (each about 1/4 inch across) bloom at one time. The compound leaves contain 4-8 pairs of opposite leaflets (plus a single terminal leaflet); each leaflet is 2-3 inches long and about 1 inch wide, sharply toothed on the edges, and lance-shaped. Between the main leaflets on each compound leaf there often appear small seconary leaflets, often only 1/2 inch or less long.
2-5 feet, partial sun, moist ground.
Summer (July-September).
Note the small leaflets growing between larger ones on the compound leaves, typical of this plant. (Best seen lower right quadrant.)
