Symphyotrichum novae-angliae (formerly Aster novae-angliae)
Easily identified by its large flowers (1-1/4" across) with bright blue, purple or sometimes pink petals and yellow centers; clasping, lance-shaped leaves tightly packed along the hairy stem; and height--taller than most asters.

Late Summer-Early Autumn (August-October).
The bracts flare outward from the involucre.
