Rough Avens

Geum virginianum

More noticeable than the small white or yellowish flower (photo below) is the rusty-colored, spiny seedhead (photo left). Lower leaves are usually in threes; lowest ones sometimes have rounded lobes (not seen here).

1-2 feet, sun.

Early Summer (June-July).

The flower has sepals (green) longer than petals and hence is inconspicuous.
