Sulfur Cinquefoil (Rough-Fruited Cinquefoil)
Potentilla recta
Introduced from Eurasia, this alien has become widespread. Plant is upright, hairy, with much foliage. Flowers are large (3/4-1 inch across) with pale yellow petals surrounding a gold center; petals are heart- shaped (obcordate) and longer than the pointed green sepals between them. Leaves are palmate (springing from a common node), having 3 to 9 toothed, ovate leaflets depending on where they occur on the plant (lower leaves have more leaflets).
1-2 feet, sun or partial shade.
Summer (June-August).
Pale yellow, heart-shaped petals with shorter sepals.
