Figwort
Scrophularia lanceolata
This tall plant produces numerous small (less than 1/2 inch), inconspicuous flowers in the form of an open hood, green on the outside and brown inside, with several stamens; an enlarged stamen (appearing like a tongue in an open mouth) in this species is yellow. Leaves are broad, ovate, pointed, and with a fairly long petiole (stem), and those low on the plant are very large--12 inches or more in length. Upper parts of the plant are mostly given over to stalks with spherical buds and florets with few leaves.
4-9 feet, partial sun.
