Jack-in-the-pulpit

Arisaema altorubens

The distinctive form of this plant makes it unmistakable. The green flap or spathe is often brown or striped with brown, as here.  The plant's flowers are tiny and at the base of the spadix or "jack" standing under the canopy. Leaves are three-parted on long stalks.

In autumn, clusters of bright red seeds form.
