Cardinal Flower
Lobelia cardinalis
Showy spikes of intense red flowers of typical lobelia form, with three-pronged lower lip. Leaves dark, smooth, ovate, with prominent veins and very short stems.
2-4 feet, shade to partial sun. Grows in damp places, often along streams or pond banks.
Summer (July-September).
