Crown-beard
Verbesina occidentalis
Yellow flower heads, about 1-1/2 inches across, have very few reflexed petals (sometimes only 1 or 2). Stems are slightly hairy but otherwise round and green. Leaves are large, lanceolate, and occur in opposite pairs on the stem. (The similar Wingstem, Actinomeris alternifolia, has a few more petals on flower heads, alternate leaves, and raised vanes or 'wings' on the stem.)
3-6 feet, partial sun.
Late Summer(August-September).
Lower leaves, often 8 inches or more long, in opposite pairs.
