Common Evening-Primrose

Oenothera biennis

A heavy, rough stem with frequent lance-shaped leaves stands erect; the clear yellow flowers appear near the top or on lateral shoots if the leader had been cut.

1-6 feet, sun or partial sun.

Summer (June-September).

As summer draws on, the leaves often become tinged with, or entirely, red.
