Dodecatheon meadia

Leaves of this native prairie plant form a basal rosette, each leaf up to 6 inches long, ovate and pointed or rounded at the tip, smooth with smooth edges, and with a prominent central vein. The base of the leaves, or base of the vein, may be reddish. From the base rise red stems which branch at the top to hold a cluster of flowers, white or pale pink, with petals strongly swept back and the stamens joined to form a "beak" in front.


To 2 feet, usually shorter; sun to partial sun.


Spring (April-June).
