Purslane Speedwell
Veronica peregrina
These tiny white flowers (1/4 inch across or less) are easily mistaken for chickweed, but have four rounded petals (one smaller than the other three, typical of Veronica spp.) rather than the five deeply cleft petals of chickweed. The ovate leaves, about 1/4-1/2 inch long near the base of the plant, are sessile and opposite but become alternate near the top, with flower buds appearing in the upper leaf axils.
1 foot or less, sun - partial sun.
Spring-Summer (March-August).
Often low to the ground, if mowed in a lawn as here.
