Great St. Johnswort (Giant St. Johnswort)
Hypericum pyramidatum (also known as H. ascyron)
This handsome and showy plant bears clusters of five-petaled yellow flowers, 2 inches across, much larger than other species of Hypericum. The flowers, which open sequentially from large buds, have a prominent tuft of many long stamens in the center and five styles leading to the ovary. Foliage is profuse; leaves are large (several inches long), ovate, entire (smooth-edged), closely attached to the stem, and pointed at the tips.
2-6 feet, sun-partial sun.
Summer (June-August).
